Health sector is an information-intensive domain. Unfortunately, this domain is relatively left behind in implementing concept, application and innovation of information management. Information management is needed to provide the best service, education, and research in health sector. Nowadays, all health organizations compete each other in managing information, sharing knowledge, and wisdom which are the main key of organization life.

There are several problems of health management information system (HMIS), such as weak surveillance, fail system of health information and billing in several hospitals. It demonstrates the high demand of experts in HMIS. This expertise, perhaps, is able to be used in diagnosing related problem about HMIS and giving solution by using systematic reasoning.

Responding to the extinction of HMIS experts at Indonesia, concentration of HMIS offers technology-based learning process and method to produce professionals in HMIS sector.

At the moment, HMIS has had three classes; 19 students of first class, 35 students of second class and 33 students of third class. Eleven students have finished their study in 2007 and several students are in thesis phase. There are so many topics which can be used in doing research, such as: geographical information system, information system of Health Office, food alertness information system, health information system in case of disaster and e-learning, information system of paramedic training, nutrient report system, human resources information system, web designing for Health Office and spatial distribution of Malaria cases.
